Project Seminar Designing Smart Cities

Since 2013, every winter semester, the master project "Designing Smart Cities - Creative Strategies for Urban Challenges" takes place at TU Berlin.

The challenge of each project is developed in collaboration with a real project partner, the Department of Urban Renewal and Sustainable Development (Prof. Elke Pahl-Weber) and the Department of Strategic Leadership and Global Management (Prof Dr. Dodo zu Knyphausen-Aufseß). Together we design, shape and supervise project seminar.

Master's students from various fields, such as economics, urban planning, architecture and engineering work together in small teams in this interdisciplinary project. They intensively investigate user-related needs and generate innovative solutions for the problem of the project partner.

The aim is to develop conceptional prototypes, graphic visualizations of the solution and corresponding implementation concepts in order to communicate the potential of the solutions in a credible way and adapt them to the requirements of specific locations.

The course is taught in English.

Current project: Winter term 2019/20: Designing Future Cities: Maintenance of public buildings in urban space – shape logistics in an innovative, sustainable and clima-neutral way

This winter term 2019/20 the project seminar „Designing Future Cities: Maintenance of public buildings in urban space – shape logistics in an innovative, sustainable and clima-neutral way“ will be focusing on the problem of high CO2 emissions public buildings in cities cause due to their maintenance. Within this seminar we will – together with the Berlin Real Estate Management company BIM – in terms of urban and regional planning, set the focus on developing spatial models for innovative maintenance of public buildings. more to: Current project: Winter term 2019/20: Designing Future Cities: Maintenance of public buildings in urban space – shape logistics in an innovative, sustainable and clima-neutral way
