Qualification Objectives
The module ‚Strategic Management’ aims at introducing the concept of industry analysis and current problems of the top-management of enterprises to the students. As part of the industry analysis, students should experience analysis instruments and enhance their content-related knowledge about selected industries that could be valuable for their professional career. The module encompasses ongoing engagement of industry experts and managers. Hereby students will be trained in performing professional presentations and engaging themselves in challenging discussions. Eventually, students should learn how to develop solutions for strategic problems of enterprises and thereby obtain awareness of management challenges within organizational change processes.

Content of Teaching
At first, the lecture ‘Strategic Management and Organizational Change’ introduces basic concepts of strategic management followed by concepts of industry analysis and industry evolution in the context of competitive strategies. Subsequently, we take a closer consideration of various industries that are of particular importance for business engineering students. In relation to corporate strategies current issues like ‘Corporate Governance’ and ‘Environmental Strategies’ are rigorously discussed from the perspective of the top-management. Additionally, this lecture provides an overview about the schools of thought of strategic management and discusses concepts of organizational change. Workshops with leading strategy consulting firms and contributions of external experts about practical experiences and selected aspects of strategic transformation are an element of this lecture series.
Forms of Teaching
The lectures are implemented as integrated seminars. Moreover, divers case studies and miscellaneous tasks will be performed in groups that will be formed in the beginning of the semester. The working results of the groups will be presented and discussed in plenary. Periodic ‘homework’ introduces students to reading textbooks.
Miscellaneous
The whole module is being offered in English. A general information lecture, where content and formal requirements of the course will be discussed, is offered at the beginning of each semester. Time and place will be published on the homepage of the subject area. Participation of the information lecture is recommended. A ‘Syllabus’ with extensive information on content and procedure of the course is provided for each of the lectures of ‘Strategic Management’
